SKIDATA is one of the most widely used access systems in ski resorts. Shopify is a strong platform for selling online. Together they let a resort sell passes around the clock. The value of the project sits in the connection between the two, so this article explains that part in plain language.
What each system does
- Shopify handles the storefront: products, prices, checkout, payment, customer emails.
- The access system handles the mountain: valid tickets, gates, card data, entry rules.
- The integration carries a paid order from the first system to the second.
What happens after the guest pays
- The guest picks a pass and pays in the webshop.
- Shopify confirms the order.
- The integration sends the order data to the resort's system.
- The pass is assigned to a card or prepared for pickup.
- The guest gets a confirmation with clear instructions.
The guest sees a simple purchase. The resort sees an order that needs no retyping.
Recharge of existing cards
Recharge is the most valuable flow. The guest enters the number of a card they already own and buys a new pass for it. The card stays in their jacket and works at the gate. The webshop needs to validate the card number and show errors clearly, because a typo here means a guest stuck at the gate.
What the resort should prepare
- A clean list of products and how they map to ticket types in the access system.
- Access details and support from the system vendor.
- Rules for validity, age categories and refunds.
- A decision on where finance gets its data. ERP can be part of the same flow.
Questions to settle early
- What happens if the access system is unreachable when an order arrives?
- How are refunds handled when a pass was already loaded?
- Who checks failed orders on a busy Saturday morning?
- Which seller and tax details go on the receipt?
Every resort has a different setup, so these answers belong in the project scope.
Why build on Shopify
A resort does not want to run a webshop platform. Shopify takes care of hosting, security and checkout, and it handles traffic spikes on the first snow weekend. The resort team can edit prices and content without a developer. The integration work focuses on what is unique to the resort.
A live example
The official online shop of O.C. Bjelašnica-Igman is built this way. It sells to B2C and B2B customers, connects to SKIDATA and ERP, and includes a mobile app for validation and an interactive resort map.
